A Fife butcher was crowned the World Scotch Pie Champion for 2008 at the first attempt. Amos Smith from Buckhaven came out top after judging by experts from the bakery and butchery trade at Lauder College, Dunfermline.
Mr Smith of W F Stark butchers, 9 College Street, won despite a record entry in the nine-year-old competition. Mr Smith, 40, was stunned by his success and said: “I didn’t enter last year as I was only six months into the shop but I started thinking about it seriously earlier this year. I was really satisfied with the batch I made for the competition, which also went into the shop that day, but never thought I would win the event".
